Spent all evening looking for obscure places in the UK and then printing out maps for them on the off chance that mother might pass near some and drop into visit.

It shouldn't have taken that long :\

You type in the place name and a map pops up with the town on it, except it's close to be able to see where it actually is, so you need to zoom out a few times and then it doesn't load properly so you hit refresh over and over, and then it's off centre to any 'key' places (that is, the bigger towns that can be used locate the smaller towns) so you move the map and goes back to the wrong scale or it goes over too far, so you redo it & then it doesn't load properly.

Rinse, repeat.

And then there was Birmingham, which obviously isn't an obscure place, but I thought I should track down the actual streets & print them out. Although I get the feeling that a bit of street that runs off a roundabout on a major road (highway) is not going to be quite the same street it was 150 years ago, if it's even the right street. But I printed out the bit of map that had the street where they lived before getting married (she married the boy next door) on a sheet of A4 using the dodgy printer & then the piece of map with the church where they married, and the maps connected :) I guess it's sort of sensible to go to a church that's not too far from where you live but I'm used to people getting married/buried in churches the next town over or something.

So now I hope 'they' make use of this little pile of hard to read grey scale maps.
