50,005 words and done.
Last lines:
"You're apparently the hero of the piece," Nia said.
"Me?"
"Facing down the armed gun man, running into a burning building to save someone's father--"
"You did that."
"--getting shot yourself in the process."
"That's not heroic."
Nia patted his hand. "The people want a hero, Sam. Let them have one?"
"Couldn't think of a better man," Matt said. He even grinned. "If it can't be me, of course."

Past the halfway point of the month. Oh no! Oh wait, that's good.
Yesterday: 2224
Today: 3791
Total: 36000
So much for 2000 words a day :(
Although I have no idea what happens next. (Sam, the police guy, is feeling light-headed, after having a glass of wine at the protag's sister's place, but this might be due to his head injury; I don't know if he expects me to do somthing with that or he was just bored and making up plot twists to entertain himself.)

Second verse, same as the first
Nov. 15th, 2008 03:55 pmMatt turned on him. "I'll come up with something. Just let me think."
And so we leave our heroes worrying about the imminent arrival of the police with their tracking dogs. They can't make a run for it, because Chev is too sick and there is no way his brother will leave him. Right now they're considering making a stand vs splitting up and at least two of them getting away.
However I try to approach it, it keeps heading for a confrontation between the antagonist (the police sgt) and the protags. At which point, I shall have to take them all out the back, beat them to death and start again.

That wasn't in the script
Nov. 14th, 2008 02:31 pmSo my protags held up the post office on the jump station (it's sort of intermediate space station, you catch a shuttle-thing from the planet to this place, and from there, get a ride to the bigger space station that has gates to all the other jump station). The jump station caters for all travellers & tourists coming & going from the planet, so there's a bit of town there, including a post office that doubles as a bank. Anyway, my protags robbed it, as they were supposed to.
But then the planet-based police guys who are trying to catch them found out where they were and shut down all traffic to the station, trapping the protags there.
THIS WAS NOT SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN.
Now I'm stuck.

I haven't updated in a week!
So for the last eight days:
2072
2108
2065
2080
2080
2556
2008
2571
Total: 25708
Nicely consistent, with an occasional naughty day were I wrote more, and tonight I'm past halfway.
I still find it hard to get started each day, but once I do, it's easier. The characters are starting to come up with things to do, which is good for the supposed antagonists as they have no set tasks at this point; it's not as good for my protags who are supposed to doing What I Say.
On the character front, I really don't care for the main POV character's girl friend, who is so obviously only there to make up the numbers; or his older brother, who obviously knows everything; or the older brother's best frined, who is obviously competent at everything he tries. On the other side of the fence, I rather like the other POV character even though HE IS SUPPOSED TO BE THE BAD GUY HERE and we won't mention the most lukewarm romantic relationship ever written that's he apparently part of.
See how I write about the bloody thing without actually saying what it's about :)

2490 words today. I could have added another 10 to make it 2500, but I know what comes next (nearly 8200 total, maybe another sentence or two? And there's another 500 words and then you're trying to outdo that the next day!).
Anyway, 2490 words today, which is over the 2000 limit (am I the only person doing NNWO who grumbles at having too many words?) but yesterday I only added 765 words, so that's two bad days to make up. Although I'm only 333 words behind so not worried.
Slightly worried that I have no idea what happens next. But then I thought the same thing this morning. There are some advantages to using actual events. I can pull out a couple of books to see where I'm going :)
First time I've written a gun fight too!

Starting to get into it a bit now. Ha. I got to 2000 words and then the words became easier-- Hang on, the agreement was 2000 words a day max, remember?
But, it was just getting good.
Doesn't matter. Go over 2000 words a day and next thing you'll know, you'll be trying to do better than previous years, and that's just not going to happen.
Bah. Oh, wait -- I have to do a bit more to make up for yesterday.
Hmm. Well, OK 2100 a day until the deficiency is made up. But NO MORE.
Sure. Will do.
Total today: 2138
Total for the month: 2725
Now, if I could come up with a working title other than "Nano 08", I'd be happy.
