I don't send any attachments to or from gmail because it has never worked for me!

I always send zip files (that's what I used it for "storage" of my works in progress so I can access them elsewhere and as a sort of backup site).

I'll have to stick to zip files, I guess :\

I can recommend getting one of those USB bytestore pens - they even give you a bit of cord so you can hang it around your neck...
