And the next scene is a nice dramatic one! Where Ross realises, hold on, it's supposed to be Des that does that. I think someone is trying to take over the book. He's managing to find an excuse to be in every possible scene (even if it's just standing there watching) and now a lot of the end drama revolves around him.

Oh well, rather him than Rick (who died years ago and is therefore rather limited in the part he could play).

Why does there always have to be someone who tries to take over though?

Authorial strictness? That's when you say "Right, you're going to do this" and they say "Like hell, we're going this way instead"?

I hate that. I loved the leader of my band of rebels. He'd come from a story and he was just perfect for the part. Then what does he go and do... turn out melancholy! It is in fact his best friend who's the funny, slightly caustic, and wise person who's the real leader, original guy is the figurehead. Damn characters, can't trust 'em an inch... scene stealers!

Oh, I had the main character of my "silly" novel do that. It's supposed to light/fluffy/silly and he goes all moody on me. What do with them? You can't punish them, that makes them worse.
