British Pharmacopoeia

The British Pharmacopoeia was created in the mid-19th century as a standard reference to replace the three pharmacopoeias in use at the time. The first edition was published in 1864. From the first time I saw it, I thought it seemed a useful type of book. I'm not sure for what yet but one day...

The first part of the book is a materia medica, which is a description of all the pharmaceutical materials (plant or otherwise), with the preparations they're used in at the bottom. I'm not going to type all that out, but I will provide some close-ups for reading.

The second part of the book is the actual preparations. The one below being Morphia & Ipecacuan Lonzenges listed under the Hydochlorate of Morphia entry show previously..

It's available through Google Books. The copy the scans came from is working as a bookend on my shelf (third from the bottom). Although that shelf is a bit fuller now so it's standing on its side. And yes, it has no cover. It sells for about $200 more with its cover and because it doesn't have one I'm not as "protective" of it and don't mind sticking it on the scanner from time to time. I shall have to get a box for it though.

I'll confess that's why I buy almost all my books (other than the "collection" ones.)
