Ghost Signs, along Charles Street

Actually, this one is in Charles St, just around the corner from the Mall. It took me a while to be sure there was actually something there.




Also, it's easier to read the words on the photo than on the street. "JAMES BECKS" Not sure on the bottom line though.





This one, at the top end of Charles St opposite Coles, is not as easy to see in the photo.



It's an ad for Velvet Soap.



And at the other end of the street, the C.H. Smith building.


This one is interesting because you have a sign over a sign. Also, if you look at the second photo on thisAustralian Heritage Database page, taken in 1985, there's a black text ad that stands out. That text now appears as mostly white, and the older black text and Reckitts Blue ad have reappeared.

It's like those trick pictures in the Coles Funny Picture Book - suddenly the wall looks different and is full of writing and echoes of colour.

Sometimes I see one of these in Retford but I've never managed to organise self enough to photograph it. Tis cool that they have a name for them tho.
