Some place, different time :)

Some photos from Hobart the other day, mostly of Taste of Tasmania and yachts, with a couple of others to pad it out.

We went in when the Taste opened (as in, we had to wait for a few minutes for them to open the gates) on the first day. For a very short time, it was not that busy, and there were empty tables.

Why anyone thinks cramming hundreds or thousands of people into tables in a tin shed is a good idea, I don't know. Not as light and airy as the photo makes it seems.

Outside, of course, it is very pleasant.

And there are street performers to watch. The Taste used to coincide with an international buskers festival. I'm not sure if it still does, but it does get some good quality performers.

The other events that the Taste coincides with are the ends of the Sydney to Hobart yacht race, the Melbourne to Hobart to yacht race and the Launceston to Hobart yacht race. In a few days time, that is going to be very crowded with yachts.

Today there is just one yacht, Wild Oats, first over the line for the Sydney to Hobart about five hours earlier.

A lot of people though, and you might happen to see something there that I missed at the time because of the crowd.

Second to arrive, Ragamuffin came in while we were standing there. That was good timing :)

From there, we went back into the city to pick up books and head back to the car, so to finish, a few random photos from the CBD.

The Myer building burnt down in September 2007. They have started rebuilding. Really.
(Gets distracted looking at really cool photos of the fire, like this one and this one.)

A wishing well is a serious thing, in Franklin Square.

An unusually quiet street.

A not so quiet street.
