If I choose to watch history docomentaries, I will remember they are intended for entertainment and I will not:

  • Make snarky comments after phrases like "absolute proof" or "that can lead to just one conclusion"

  • Point out to them that they are handling metal objects with bare hands.

  • Watch any reenactments closely to find errors

  • Grumble every time there's a DRAMATIC NOISE or FANCY GRAPHICS

  • Turn off the TV if they show someone staring meaningfully off into the distance for any length of time

  • Wonder if the "experts" being consulted are really crackpots pushing their pet theory

  • Check online to find out what the commonly accepted current theories on that subject really are

This kind of reminds me of a World History textbook I "vetted" for my then-girlfriend's 10-year-old brother. They were making absolutist statements like that even in the section about prehistory (based on the way several "primitive" cultures behave today).
