Last time I was in Hobart, I thought I'd try to get some "Now" photos to match some of my older postcards. No, not the lighthouse one, it's a bit hard to get to I didn't have that one then.

I ran into a couple of problems though. First, I had a printout of the postcards (didn't want to drag the originals around) to use for comparison, which I had in by bag, which I checked in early at the bus depot so I wouldn't have to lug it about...

So I thought I'd try a few photos around the right area and see if anything came close once I got home.

Mt Wellington from Dock

Original.

Right

Angle sort of matches, but the light is bad and it might be better further away (grumble, grumble). And someone put a fish restaurant in the middle and blocked the view of the left side. Still, you can see the museum (on the right), the post office clock tower behind that, to the left the maritime museum (centre of postcard, brown with a red roof; left of centre in photo, hidden in shadows with a grey roof)

Left

This is sort of the part that's on the left. The leftmost waterfront buildings have mostly been demolished, except for the white one (the left side of that is the narrow, yellow shop in my photo, I'm not sure if the pink/green part next to it is the same building or not.

Wharves

The other two postcards I have are similar. This is the first one. Damaged but I buy them for the picture, and the damaged ones are cheap (and I can edit it out if it worries me).

Docks

My photo from the road.

I'd say the original photo was taken upstairs in the building behind me (now the museum). Oh well.

Wharves

This is the second one of the same location. I like the detail in these images. Can you see a resemblance between the masted ships in these older pictures and this?
