Dark Towns

I'll repost this here because people actually read it :)

It might be selective memory, but on thinking about fictional towns & cities, it seems the most believable ones are those with the dark or negative elements emphasised.

I can't think of any examples though

This is why I wasn't going to write it, as soon as I opened up the page, I forgot the places I'd been thinking of.

There is that :)

SF/F mainly. Although places like London, esp Victorian London, seem to fit too.

Dark is more interesting than nice?
