Low Head Lighthouse

The Low Head lighthouse was built in 1888, replacing a 50 year old dilapidated tower.
The original tower was designed by Colonial Architect John Lee Archer, who was responsible for many public buildings in the colonies, including Parliament House, Ross Bridge, the King's Orphanage and the
Penitentiary Chapel
Painting showing the original tower
I won't include any comments. If you want to know more about the lighthouse, have a look at Lighthouses of Australia. For the buildings on the site (the tower and the older cottage), there's some information in the Australian Heritage Database.

The path leading up to the lighthouse offers a good view of the Port Dalrymple/Tamer River.

The blue shed on the right hold the foghorn.
Foghorn
From the information sheet, the foghorn was installed in 1929. "In 2001 Parks & Wildlife Service with the Low Head Progress & Heritage Association decided to restore this type "G" diaphone and the Gardner engine to full operating condition. This has now been achieved and it has been advised that the installation is the only fully operational system left in world"

Leading Lights
There are two leading lights down river a little, with accompanying cottages, built in the 1880s.
This is the northernmost one, at She Oak Point.
