I was going to say that until November I'm going to be a bit single-minded, but that's not true. I'll have two subjects on my mind. Double-tracked? Anyway, I'll assume this will be reflected here. You have been warned.

That's why today I was looking through the Tasmanian Almanack, 1825 (that's what it was called). I like Almanacks, they have lots of lists and numbers. This one has a list of significant buildings in Hobart Town. Sixteen of them. I'd ask you to guess what they are, but that's probably a bit hard. (Or is it? There's only one commercial establishment, but other than that, what are the significant buildings in a town of any size?) I also have a street map from the same time with buildings marked on it. I should be able to find all the first and mark them on the map, right? Right...

Raiding my postcard collection today, to provide a quick trip into the past.

Around the turn of the last century, these huts were built on the lower slopes of Mt Wellington. Not your usual utilitarian mountain hut though. These were creations of some fancy, and inhabited by ladies and gentleman of leisure.

Clematis Hut

That's Clematis Hut, in amongst the gum trees and tree ferns. I'll do a close-up
