Last night, when I went to bed, this was a perfectly good mouse trap.

I guess it could pass as abstract modern art now.
Note the abscence of anything to stick the bait in/on. That's what the big staple in the middle was attached to.
I can accept that the "victim" got lucky and the staple holding down one side came loose. But removing the part holding the cheese? I think required some effort.
