Melbourne Trip: Part 5 Transition
Oct. 2nd, 2011 06:59 pmI cut this bit off from the rest so they didn't get too long. Well, that was the intention. Just imagine how long they could have been!
Day 2, Midday

When we left the Aquarium it wasn't raining any more. There was a tram at the stop immediately opposite where we came out. I didn't think we had a chance of getting across the road but it waited for us.
Although we only took it one block up the road, for a quick detour on the way to the train.

To the police museum, which had some new stuff on display, like Mac's scrapbook

and this which the label claims is a 19th century vampire extermination kit. That just asks for a closer look.

Anyway, I took some more apparently random photos and we left

almost. I should have used the flash for these photos. Oh well.

They let both kids go, which was handy.

Leaving the WTC, we went looking for Southern Cross train station. Sister suggested following the train. I don't think we can walk quite that fast. So we went with plan B: walking up the road towards where I'd last seen it.

And there it was.

Taking photos coming down an excalator doesn't usually make for good photos.

There was some uncertainity as to which direction the train would come from. (From the right, as it turned out.)

Not sure if she's given up on the "Don't take photos of me" hiding thing, or she thought I was testing the camera.

Royal Park Station is fairly typical of the suburban stations, at least the ones we've used. To find the zoo, we used a variation on the previous technique: we followed the path out of the station area and then saw the zoo entrance.

Once inside the zoo, our first stop was the dining area for lunch. Many birds in this area.

This peacock was showing off for almost the whole time we were eating. He started after we arrived but was still going after we left.

This guy wasn't quite as impressive. (That fuzzy effect is the feathers, not the photo.)

He was also very jumpy, unlike the first bird who stood quite calmly even when small kids came up to him.

Like usual, the hens aren't showing any interest.

I'll put the zoo animals in their own post, but as a starter, what are these?
