Tamar River

I went into town to have a look at the Tamar River. It had obviously dropped from its peak (at 8 am, three hours earlier, but the debris marked where it had been.

The thing that struck me was the lack of boats.

The next thing (which you can sort of see in this photo) how fast it was moving. Usually I see the water come charging down the South Esk, but by the time it meets the Tamar--under the bridges to the right there--it's quite sluggish.

And then, but only once I stepped up to the rail, the smell. The usual salty/fishy sea/estuary smell, but only once I was standing at the edge and it's not usually that noticeable.
I walked up past the yacht club to Kings Bridge to see if there was anything else of interest.

I did a quick panorama. (Click for bigger version.)

Half of Launceston was up here (the biggest attraction in the city, looking at the river, yay). I wasn't really that keen on walking up along the Gorge to take photos. After all I've got plenty of photos of it in flood and from as recently as two months ago. There'd be nothing new up there. Right?
