Two today, the small town of Orford and a nearby beach.

River

Prosser River

But first, the beach

Beach

This is Shelly Beach

Beach

It looks like any regular, if small, beach...

Sand

but the sand is crunchy and rough under foot.

Sand

You can see why it's called Shelly Beach.

I dug down a bit, but still shell material, if smaller fragments. Is it sand if it's mostly shells?

Welcome

Orford is just south of Triabunna. The population for most of the year is 400-500 people, but rises to something like 3000 over summer. Want to guess what sort of town it is?

Road

Coming in from the north, just after the bridge, the highway turns inland and heads towards Hobart and the town of the south east. I guess that makes it the last town on the east coast.

Road

Along with the log trucks travelling to the woodchip plant at Triabunna, there's a lot of tourist traffic through here. Coming from the south, there's a long stretch of winding highway with nowhere you can stop to eat

Cafe

and then you come to this pleasant little seaside town. So I guess there's a lot stop over traffic during summer. At least, there a number of fancy, new cafe/restaurants down facing the jetties.

Jetties

Supermarket

This the main road through the town. The bridge is part of the highway, which heads around to the left. The right hand street runs down past the jetties and cafes. The one I'm standing on seems to be the main road so, turning around, I'll go and see what is down there.

Orford - house

The houses along here seem the traditional sort of beach shack.

But up behind the police station, there's a new subdivision going in.

Orford

Real estate seems to be a big industry in the town too.

Orford

There was third one too.

Church

St Michael and All Angels Anglican Church

There's also a school and library, but being as they were just standing there quietly, the camera didn't like them.

River - 2

OK it was getting late, so the lighting wasn't as good as it could be. Definitely time to go 'home' too.
