Oatlands is on the Midlands Highway, halfway between Launceston and Hobart. Actually it's not. The town is about 80 km from Hobart and 115 from Launceston, and it was bypassed when the "new" highway was built 30 or so years ago.

It's main features are a lot of old sandstone buildings (said to have the most of any town in the country) and the windmill.

The spring festival consists of lots of stalls with too many books in the main street, and another area over the back with a kid's section (sideshow games & show bags), a market and some other bits & pieces. And other places around the town had displays or things for sale.

Stall

We arrived early, before it had actually opened so the street is quiet.

I was wondering. Did you cross 'too many books' out because there *were* too many, and then arrived and bought all the excess?

I wish :( It's an in-joke for a friend who I msged for help because there were too many books I wanted!

Fortunately, most of them were in the "no way am I paying that for a book" price range. I'd only brought money for lunch and a few knicknacks but at the first stall I went to I got Boxall's History of Australian Bushranger (illustrated version, with is the quite cheaper than the older editions) which I have wanted for ages.
