The Magenta Woman

Don't really want to know about trip to Ringaroom. Nah. More productive to be rewriting. Except I can't convince myself it's worth writing.
It's a prequel to another novel first draft I have, that I tossed because the plot as it stand is too weird. But I liked the world/characters and I realised there were a few background events that could be put together to make another story. Now, as a prequel (here's some more about these characters and what happened to them), it's fine. As a standalone, I don't know if the plot is enough to carry it. Of course there's no way I'm going to rewrite the original, as it is. So is there any point in working on the one I'm working on. :\

Date: 2005-01-24 08:11 am (UTC)If you're inspired by the one you're working on, I think you should work on it. Any extra conflict/twists you can add to spice up the plot? Make something bigger be at stake?

Date: 2005-01-25 03:53 am (UTC)So I work on the prequel.
It inspires when I'm away from the keyboard but as soon as I open the word processor, nothing. However, I'm quite happy hacking typewritten copy to pieces when I'm not at home so that's my compromise. I'll print each scene and work on it elsewhere, meanwhile, I'll find something else to work on for the other days.
The plot, well, it starts with a pirate captain and the problems she's having, with an occasional jump over to this young guy who's doing other things elsewhere. Then about halfway through the captain gets killed and the young guy, who is her son, takes over as captain and, being a young guy trying to take over as captain, he has various problems to overcome. So it's two stories in a way. Hers, which ends halfway through, and his, which doesn't really start until that point, but with the common thread of the (living) ship/crew. Ah. Now I understand it better. Talking through these things helps!

Oh good! Glad!
