Interesting to see in the photos the things the eye missed.

There are three skill tests being demonstrated here: lopping the ball of the poles, skewering the ring hanging from the gallows and getting the wooden stake on the ground (tent pegging). These are done competitively in places.

(g) I think the photos are more interesting than the actual display, because you can actually see what is happening.

Of course, I might have seen more if I wasn't watching it through a camera the whole time :)

Ooh, those are good photos!!

They used to have tent-pegging at the Royal Easter Show years ago (possibly they still do.) I have a vague feeling they used to get the local mounted police to demonstrate/compete with tentpegging etc, as these were skills they were regularly trained in. (makes sense I suppose.)

Did you have any ill effect from the gale-force winds sweeping Tas & Victoria a few days ago?

Thanks :)

It wasn't as bad in the north of the state the news said (bad enough, I was thinking about 6 pm that I was so glad not to be out in that). How it can hit Victoria and souther Tasmania but less so the bit in between I have no idea :)

How was your trip west?

Very interesting to find these photos.

I wish my horse had been running faster though.

He is much faster now! :)
