Interesting to see in the photos the things the eye missed.
There are three skill tests being demonstrated here: lopping the ball of the poles, skewering the ring hanging from the gallows and getting the wooden stake on the ground (tent pegging). These are done competitively in places.

Date: 2008-04-05 01:19 am (UTC)They used to have tent-pegging at the Royal Easter Show years ago (possibly they still do.) I have a vague feeling they used to get the local mounted police to demonstrate/compete with tentpegging etc, as these were skills they were regularly trained in. (makes sense I suppose.)
Did you have any ill effect from the gale-force winds sweeping Tas & Victoria a few days ago?

It wasn't as bad in the north of the state the news said (bad enough, I was thinking about 6 pm that I was so glad not to be out in that). How it can hit Victoria and souther Tasmania but less so the bit in between I have no idea :)
How was your trip west?
