I like reading the Informations and related documents because they give details about ordinary people's lives. This petition from 1853 is outside the limits of my project, but it might be of interest so I typed it up and therefore I have to share it :)

After the actual petition, there are comments from others (whose signatures I can't read) in support of his application, and then the "official decision".

To His Excellency Sir W.T. Denison, Knight
Lieut. Governor of Van Diemans Land
and its Dependencies

The Humble Petition of Thomas Jones, "Duncan", holding a Ticket of Leave in the service of Mr. John Fyfe of Kangaroo Pond.

Denison and received a sentence of Six Months hard labour & Ordered by His Excellency the Lieut Governor not to reside in Hobart Town, he being at the time in the Service of Sir W.T. Denison.

That Your Petitioner was married by Dr Fry at St. Georges Church in Hobart Town in August 1848 to one Eliz Russell per "Elizth & Henry" now holding a Ticket of Leave and having a Comfortable House in Hobart Town now occupied by his Wife She being in the habit of Working for several respectable families in Hobart Town. Whereby it would put his Wife to much inconvenience by her leaving Hobart Town and breaking up the home.

You Petitioner most respectfully solicits that Your Excellency will be Graciously Pleased to cancel the order for his removal from Hobart Town and allow him the privilege of residing with his Wife in Hobart Town.

Your Petitioner Most Respectfully prays that Your Excellency will take his case into favourable consideration and grant him the indulgence he prays for.

And Your Petitioner as is duty bound will ever pray.

The Petitioners prayer is recommended by John Fyfe

The applicant was about 2 years in the ?'s Gardens, and was during that time known to me and was well conducted, and I beg respectfully to recommend his application for possible consideration

I beg to recommend this application - his wife is a hard working woman and is naturally anxious to have her husband --- (signature) 3/9/53

Submitted to His Excellencys decision - the petitioner has not been convicted of any offence since his conviction and sentence to 6 months hard labour on the 7 Nov 52 for having improperly in his possession a plant the property of Sir William Denison - From the nature of petitioners offence and the circumstances attending it it seems to be desirable not to comply with the prayer of this petitioner

Certainly not this man is a thief & the woman is probably a receiver of stolen goods - he is better where he is or even farther off WT Denison

(Back page) Inform this man that his request cannot be complied with

Lots of photos again, but I cut it down from 160 and couldn't delete any more, because there's a lot of cold ones, I mean cool. Also, some nudity, from a distance.

Good morning! It is morning. If it was night, the hotel would be open.
