Pulp Mill stuff
May. 15th, 2008 09:13 pmANZ Bank says it is examining whether the Gunns pulp mill proposed for northern Tasmania will destroy high conservation value forests before deciding whether to finance the project.
ANZ - Gunns' banker and a proposed financier of the $2 billion project - earlier this month adopted a policy committing it to "avoiding" support for projects that destroy high conservation value forests.
Yesterday, ANZ spokeswoman Sherelle Murphy said the bank was assessing the mill, proposed for the Tamar Vally north of Launceston, through the "filter" of its new forest policy.

Today there was a guy in the mall getting signatures on petition to get the Launceston City Council to hold a public meeting and electoral poll on the pulp mill issue. I forget the wording. I'm not sure what that will accomplish though, other than making noise.
