The Meander River at Deloraine. Very picturesque. There's a new bridge that gives you a better view of this old... what?

Picked up a new toy at the market today. A video player! Yah, now I can watch the videos I have.

When I finally got home tonight, I plugged it all in, hit play and there was a picture. (Pauses to remember old days when one had to spend ages with the tuning knows getting the TV to spit out the picture, I like my TV.) Hit rewind. It goes for a second and stops. So it's at the end. Hit fast forward. It goes for a second and stops. Hmm. Play. Same thing.

Can't say bad words because mother is sitting on the couch.

It won't eject. It switches off a couple of seconds after being turned on.

....

Once mother leaves, I ponder VCR repair websites. I manage to coax the tape halfway out by hitting eject as soon as I turn on the power. Remove case. Remove tape. Talk nicely to VCR. Find an old tape that I don't care about and spend some time hitting rewind, play & fast forward. Things happen!

Hook VCR up to TV again and it works!!

Picture quality dubious but a good clean should fix most problems.

Picked up an interesting record today: Vanishing Sounds in Britain. It's recordings of sounds that you don't hear very often/at all these days e.g. horsedrawn vehicles, paddlesteamer, bulding being demolished, various trains, trams & old planes.

Quite interesting.
