Not sure what this is about but it makes pretty coloured things, so I pinched it from [livejournal.com profile] karenetaylor

Along the Midlands Hwy, about halfway to Hobart, there are a number of steel sculptures, in the forms of silhouettes, that have been placed in paddocks near the road.

There are five of them, over about twenty kms, on either side of Oatlands and it doesn't seem possible to see all five on one leg of a trip.

We made a point of watching carefully on the way home today. So we saw the stagecoach from a distance away. The hangman is easy to miss, because it's a way from the road and small (slightly smaller than life size) but we had a good idea of where it should be and found it. The bushranger holding up the man on a horse is easy, because it's on the top of hill right on the edge of the road. The soldiers after we passed Oatlands were a bit harder, but we caught them as we went past. The chain gang though -- no luck. We saw it on the way down (it's the first) and noticed it is on the side of dam, so it should have been easy. It must be on a slope that is hard to see when heading north.

We'll have to try on the way south next time.

In the same area, north of Oatlands, there also a number of hedges cut into the shape of animals along the edge of the road (and a very overgrown train). Not as many as there used to be, but better than when they were left to get overgrown (there's a little story in there). Noticed a fish & a large lizard/crocodile that I hadn't seen before.

Also saw a wedgetailed eagle sitting on a post on the way down.

Was a very spotting day ;)
