That writing thing
Dec. 1st, 2005 10:40 amOfficially, I'm rewriting a novel from a fews years ago, with the working title of Magic. (Because it's the first, well only, one I've written that has actual, real magic in it. Usually any magical stuff is in the background or done by other people. The characters might use magical items, they might be strange creatures, they might get turned into a dog but they don't use it themselves.
Which is not really relevant at the moment, other than I'll get it out of the way because I guess I'll be grumbling about this novel for the next few months :)
Current thinking is about the direction it goes in, or should go in. It goes dark towards the end, as do most of my stories, except I tend to edit it out -- too self indulgent. Which is rather silly, really.
So this time I thought I'd I leave it in there, but then there's the first part of the book with is rather, well, mild. So I'm left wondering whether I should leave it as it is, or make the start darker, or add hints, or....
What makes a story dark anyway?
