Marshmallows in tea
Aug. 15th, 2005 06:57 pmor "It seemed like a good idea at the time"
The two standard wooden mousetraps I bought last week don't seem as sensitive as the older one. Or the mice have got cleverer at not setting them off. Or bother.
The live one was working well. It's like a lenght square, plastic pipe with a bend halfway along. Mouse goes in, it tips up and the door shuts. Nothing to trigger. There is the problem of disposing of mousie afterwards (dog doesn't ,mind last night walks though). Now though I said "was working". The cap that goes on one end has gone missing. A mouse pulled it off and carried it away?
Realised why the little, bold hunter doesn't like going into the kitchen. Traps are rather loud when they go off and they're sitting on stupid, brown tiles which exaggerates the noise. Little dog doesn't like loud noises. Having the fridge fall on her the other day didn't help. So it wasn't the fridge, it was a pole sitting beside the fridge that fell down while I was pulling the fridge out but little dog probably took off too quickly to realise that.
The other smart thing I did last week was to buy the mini-sized for small dogs dog food. After all, I could get 3 kgs (a month's supply) of it for about the same price at the 1.5 kilos senior dog food in the other brand. I've been giving her the senior food for a few years now, one benefit of it is it's lower energy. With one brand I buy, the senior & regular look much the same; with the other, the senior only comes in big sized pieces, which Jaz seems to like but I like to buy her the smaller sized ones (besides, it has picture of her on it).
So, the minis are a good price and I have to restock on a lot of things this week so I want to go with a cheaper option. Good idea.
I come home Friday night, let her in and she starts doing laps around the lounge room. "Sheesh, dog, what are you on?" Oh. Guess what happens when you change a hyper JR from low energy to regular dog food? And I bought a month's worth of it.
