At the movies
Jul. 14th, 2005 06:15 pmFinally got to see Batman Begins yesterday, and probably not a day too soon. From today, there is just one showing a day so it's probably about to finish (It's just started, stupid cinema).
Never been to see a Batman or related movie at the cinema before and think I've managed to miss all except one on TV too. Not that I've got anything against Batman, after all I've got every issue of the comic from 1987 to 1997, not to mention Detective Comics, Shadow of the Bat, Legends of the Dark Knight, Robin, Nightwing, Catwoman and a few others, but, well, you can probably guess why I've never bothered with the movies. ¬_¬
So what about this one? Well, I wish I'd gone to see it sooner so I could go to see it again :(
Admittedly, that's in part because I have no idea what actually happened. I was sitting a tad too close to the screen so it was very in my face and I couldn't concentrate on the whole thing at once. I couldn't concentrate on anything much because my attention kept slipping (my mind tends to wander off on tangents at inappropriate times). And the actual film itself is dark and choppy so it's not that easy to follow the action esp. in the fight scenes (which actually seemed rather like fight scenes in comics -- you don't really know what's happening until it's over)
But still, it was dark with lots of action and cool lines, even a couple of sword fights. (What more do you really want in a movie? Well, sailing ships & another cute guy or two). Alfred was, well, Alfred, and we got Lucius Fox too. Yah.
Things I didn't like:
the car chase did not need to be that long, really.
the token love interest - so, she's in danger and we care because?
the mask didn't work, or the voice, the rest of the costume was fine.
A few niggles about character development but a 2 hour movie is a rather limited space.
Good waste of $20
