I ate the first self-grown tomato of the season today. From the tomato plant growing in the pot with the rose that has a handful of a small tomatoes on it. Forgot that they are, one of the usual suspects (probably Grosse Lisse). I don't usually worry about varieties in veges. Bit different to my other plants (I have to know which species/variety I'm getting and if it's not the exact one I wont, it doesn't come home). This is because if I start getting interested in specific varieties, esp. the heirloom ones, I'll run out of space even quicker. So I deliberately avoid buying heirloom veges :)

The Black Russian hasn't started to ripen yet. A LOT of fruit on the that one plant though. I saw this one in a nursery and I like black plants and I assumed it was just a fancy new hybrid. But, it's a heirloom variety =:-o

Still, one won't hurt (ignores the roses) esp. as there's little information about the actually history of different varieties. That's the killer :)
