Oct. 23rd, 2004 04:18 amYesterday was Erin's 7th birthday. Nothing exciting, us and a couple of her friends did the party games things then wnet to Hungry Jacks for tea. It is the first time I've ever seen anyone chased by a budgie though.
Today was St Leonard's School fair. I'm going to cheat and copy in a post I made elsewhere rather than typing anything else.because, well, you'll see why.
It was the school fair (fete?) for my niece's primary school. My brother
attended this school from the mid-80s onwards, now my niece goes there. It
still has the same principal. (It's a little school of about 300 kids, in a
suburb that used to be a small town until the city grew out to meet it and
it's still retained a lot of it's 'community' spirit.)
They were supposed to have a small animal nursery there so sister, who has
five 6 week old puppies, planned to take them along as well, and we were
going to take photos of kids with the animals. Brother-in-law was also
going in his role as the security guy with his security dog (he runs his
own canine security company), a rather good natured Belgian Malinois.
Anyway, the people brining the farm animals pulled out so there was just
the puppies. Which was OK because kids love baby puppies and they, and us,
were kept busy all day. A couple came by with 4 month old Tibetan Mastiff
pup at one point. He was almost the same colouring as the GSD pups &
similar type of coat but 4 times as big. That provided a bit of
entertainment. Looking at photos afterwards, seems the girl that owned him
was one of the local State MPs.
There were a few quiet times, esp at the start, when I was left alone with
the pups. I'd get out the camera and try to get some photos. We had a TV
set up so we could plug the digital camera in to show people the photos.
Thought I kept getting shocked if I touched the screws on the camera or the
metal on the cart.
Puppies being puppies, one of them finally noticed the cord leading into
the TV, I lunged for puppy, puppy put it's mouth on cord, puppy started
screaming, I grabbed at puppy's head to pull it away from cord, very scared
puppy bit at it's "attacker". 6 months old German Shepherd puppies with
sharp little teeth can hurt more than you'd expect :( Hit the bone on the
back of one finger and dug into the palm on the other side..
Turned out the plastic coating had worn away on one part of the power cord and
the wires were exposed.
Puppy seems OK and my hands doesn't seem too bad unless I touch it or type too much or go out and dig in the gardens. Unfortunately, school fairs, at least this particular one, is a good place to pick up cheap plants.
Other than that, it was a good, if rather tiring day.
