You wouldn't think it would be hard to find a decent collection of (dated) old train pictures on the net, would you?

have you looked for model trains? they tend to date their engines as they are odd about that sort of thing.

That would work to find the right "type".
I did manage to find one, with a bit of help, this time. (Then, of course, I decided I needed the interior of the driver's cabin too. Bah.)
