So, Friday I go down to spend the day on the Lady Nelson.

There's the brig, amongst all the sideshows and yacht watching.

Wild Oats

That's the line honours winner, Wild Oats XI, the one from the night photos. The white tent behind is the "official" bar.

Skandia from LN

Two others came in during the night. One about 2 am & Skandia sometime before 10 am. This is later in the day, because you can see Yendys's mast on the left just before the wheel. They came in about 1 pm i.e. just as we were supposed to be going out again.

For most of the year, Lady Nelson does 3 harbour cruises on Sunday & Saturday. An hour and half total -- motor upwind, set the fore sails and then sail back/across the harbour depending on the condition, watch crew set & hand the sails, and wear ship a number of times (and go aloft on the final sail), maybe help with a line or two, go below to see the galley & whatever else they get shown down there, and in between watch the world drift by. Passengers seem to think it's good value for $15.

For the week after Christmas, there are harbour sails every day.

Today we're told to pay particular attention to getting things right and acting professional (and make sure you clean up an crumbs in the galley). After all, this is one of the biggest events in the state, if not the country, with lots of interstate & overseas visitors. And there we are literally in the middle of it. !

Skandia

Leaving now.

Marina

The marina is probably full of yachts as I write this up.

Line of sails

Most of the activity on the harbour is down south a bit, waiting for the yachts to appear. Closer to the marina, there are ships taking people around on cruises and the odd small pleasure craft.

One of those cruise ships that, from the banner along its side usually takes passengers to Cadbury's, did a circle around us, while its passengers took photos. A bit weird. A bit choppy too.

Sails

You can pick the yachts coming in -- tall white blobs of, above the smaller sails. The non-yacht on the right is Windeward Bound.

Yachts

There's a few more masts in there now.

That is all though, because I had to leave right on 4.30 pm, to catch the bus home, but it was a very fun couple of days.
