A little collection of photos I like to call "Photos taken from a car travelling along the Midlands Hwy while the sun was setting" because, well they are, except for two. :) I took them because the light was interesting. Other than this first one, they're presented in the order they were taken, from 6.50 pm to 7.50 pm.

Forth - 1
Forth, near Devonport. Which it predates as a settlement, and that's about all I know about the place. The Wikipedia page has more :)

Turners Beach - 1

Turners Beach, on the north west coast between Devonport and Ulverstone. I thought it was more of residential area, but on investigation we found a service station, a fire station, a tennis club, a hall and a football team (although it seems they didn't win any games this year). I think any place that has a hall and a football team must have enough of an identity to be considered a town for the purposes of this exercise. Also there is a phone box.

Photos aren't the best (it was a bit bleak) and I won't bother captioning (there's a service station, a fire station, a tennis club, a hall and a football club.)

The aim is to photograph every town in the state, and I put on LJ to keep track of them and they be useful for someone one day.

I'm using town in a very broad sense, to include everything from hamlets to cities. Basically, it a place that is or was a gathering of buildings that includes houses and services for the residents, that has/had an identity separate from the surrounding area. Services being a post office, fire station, school, sports team, community hall, hotel (and, of course, a phone box). Shops don't count, because shops pop up anytime there's enough people to make it worth having one, whereas the other things usually require some form of community identity. Although a shop that includes a post office counts :)

It doesn't include suburbs that are residential areas of a city, unless they were a town in their own right before becoming part of the city.

The quality and quantity of photos varies, because sometimes we're just passing through, other times I get time to walk down the street and do it properly. There's also the problem that I can't remember which ones I've already done :)
