Today we went to Campbell Town for the first day of the Midlands Military Meet and Rendezvous. Quite interesting. How often do you get to share a supper table with a German WW2 soldier, an American Civil War cavalry officer and two big, burly barbarians?
It's an inaugural three event for militaria collectors & living history reenactors (or re-enactors for sqrls). We had a table, because b-i-l was there in his US Civil war uniform. Some interesting dealer tables in this place -- lots of knives, swords, firearms and knives, as well as helmets, medals, badges, books and other military stuff, scrimshaw & antique rifles with 4-figure price tags.
Inside, static displays of uniforms and machine guns and photos. Outside, displays of horsemanship by Light Horse reenactors, a shoot-out between German & Australian troops on Crete, medieval sword-fighting, big guns being shown off and vintage military vehicles.
All very interesting.
Although the next two days look to be more of the same.
