I have a little toaster oven that I bought years ago. It get used a lot because it's handy for grilling & heating/cooking little things when a big oven would be overkill not to mention slower and, I assume, more expensive. It's best feature is the power knob. Turned to the left, the 'Manual' setting, it's a standard sort of power switch that stays on onto turned off, but turned to the right, it's a timer. It goes tick-tick-tick down to zero, DING!, and turns itself off. Which solves the problem I usually have with heating/cooking things -- forgetting about them! Needless to say, I always use the timer.
At lunch time today, I put some chips onto cook. After a few minutes, I remembered that last night, I'd set the temperature to 0 so I went back to back it on something useful. The oven was set to 'Manual'. So I must set it to that without thinking. I changed it to 15 mins at 200oC, waited for it to go DING and then took out my chips.
About 4 hours later, I went into the kitchen and the little oven is blazing away at 200oC on Manual. Arck. I had no reason to have touch the switch after taking out the chips either. I put it back to 'Off' and set the temperature to 0. I looked at it a few times while I was making a sandwich, but it's still on 'Off'
Then I'm back in the kitchen another four hours later replacing the light bulbs, and the oven's red light is on. It's on Manual again. So I stick it on 'Off' and pull the plug out.
A few minutes later it's back on Manual.
*whimper*
Maybe I should put the mouse, which is clicking very erratically, in the oven and let them fight it out.
