Grrrr

Bad ants

This morning toe was red and very itchy. I hate it when the more you scratch something, the worse it gets. I hate it when there's something wrong with my feet, even a minor thing like a shoe rubbing because you're aware of it every time you take a step, and I walk enough for it to be a problem. This all makes me very irritable.

I do find it interesting that it was well over 24 hours before there was any reaction to the bite. I always thought that would happen in the first hour, the first few minutes even.

Tonight was the end of year party for museum Friends & volunteers.

It started at 6 pm, last bus to get me there goes past about 5.32, which works out well. Except for the bit where I lost track of time and suddenly it was 5.18 and I hadn't even started to get ready.

Not a problem. Red top that I wore last year & black skirt I wore last two years were ready to put on. Strappy shoes are there, and the soles things to stop feet sliding out are in them. Hair, well, can't do anything with it and it doesn't look to bad as is. Now if I can just find some stocking, ah, two pairs that might be wearable. One pair is slightly thick (good for cooler evenings) and a good fit. Yah.

Only black jacket is a blazer that looks like it belongs in an office. That one on the end might do better, but I think it's navy blue. There's a green one that looks more like a coat. That'll work.

Got wallet, got keys, can't find phone. Stuff it. Late as it is.

Run outside. Stop to lock front door. Realise stockings are navy. Bad words. Realise at this point that shoes will slid on and off without. Other pair of stockings are black with a pattern, nice, and don't appear to be laddered. But they're either a touch small or twisted. No matter. I can fix that up when I get there. Realise process of sliding shoes on and off has pushed down one of the sole things. Pull that out. Note that running walking quickly down driveway in shoes is not possible. Take shoes off.

Halfway down driveway, the bus goes past. Bad words. Ponder on going back to wait half an hour for next bus. Ponder on bus that goes in other direction about this time, that might not have been yet.

Run across main road through northern suburbs in end-of-peak hour traffic with shoes in one hand. Stand at the bus stop on homeward bound side of main road putting on shoes, with very loose skirt blowing up everyone. Consider that not likely to miss bus, even if distracted by putting on shoes when it turns up.

Realise that shoes, even on tightest setting, are now too big. Also realise that skirt that I bought two years ago is definitely too big. Hmmm.

Get to function on time. Volunteers have name badges this year!

Spend next hour trying to stop shoes falling off. And eating nice food. And drinking too much.

Good evening all up.

A year in review: From your journal, copy and paste the first sentence/paragraph from the first entry from every month of the year.

January

D, age 6: Today is the last day of December!

February

Was thinking of making February a blue month, but then I'm going to be away for a couple of night so I'll see.

March

This is a mile stone that used to be on the Midlands Hwy. On one side it has the distance to Launceston and on the other side it has, well, it doesn't have the distance to Hobart Town. That bit is blank. It's not an anomaly either. There's a bunch of them now at Clarendon, and every one is blank on the HT side.

April

Someone removed the Turbo Risk shortcut from the games folder on my Start Menu :(

May

Home!

June

Am looking at Adult Ed's winter programme, for that which interests me, is on at times when buses run, is affordable and not yet booked out.

July

Rearranged the room the computer & desk are in. I wanted to reduce the distance the cord to the modem had to cover so it wasn't stretched to its limit (accomplished), stop the afternoon sun shining on the computer screen (it doesn't, now it shines on me) and get better access to the bookcase on the side of the desk (worse, because computer is now there).

August

Another tale of a wrecked ship, also on King Island.

September

Home.

October

halspacejock posted a Nanowrimo reminder. That's National Novel Writing Month, where you're supposed to write a 50,000 word novel (or part thereof) in a month.

November

3000 words down, 47000 to go!

December

Any suggestions for fantasy novels with thief characters?

Variety anyway. Was mostly a good year too, at least the first bit.

Looking back at last summer and thinking what I have "planned" for this summer makes me sad though. I wonder if I can wangle a trip down there for the 28th December. Even if I did, it couldn't be as good as last years :\
