Last time I bought sugar at the supermarket, they had a new brand: Sunshine Sugar. Have a look. See the smaller ones on the outside. See what they are in? Milk cartons.

I open the carton & start to pour it into the sugar bowl. No! Wrong container! Milk shouldn't, oh, it's sugar. *sigh*

Of course, when the bowl is full, I put the carton in the fridge.

Really, who ever thought that packaging was a good idea needs to be sacked.

5440 words, gives me a total of 12,000

An interesting thing, the characters are sticking to the plot. There's minor variations e.g. where Jevan was supposed to get beaten up as a warning, he is instead tied up and left in a water trough, with the water running. But that doesn't change much beyond the following scene.

Usually the plot gets rewritten for me, and often bears little resemblance to my original idea. (I think of Fox where the initiating scene, the one that was the seed for the whole story idea, made it into the first draft in a almost unrecognisable form, and isn't in the second draft at all.)

Maybe it's because I spent longer than usual thinking about this one. It underwent a couple of fairly drastic changes in the weeks beforehand, and it finally fell very neatly into place earlier this week.

OTOH last year I struggled because I had a fairly detailed plot in my head beforehand, then the MC decided he wanted to do it differently.

It might be because this plot requires certain elements to be put in place early on, in order to get them to fit together at the end. It's a little twisty. I hope.

I do know that every novel is different, and insisting they should be written a certain way because that's what has worked in the past is a very silly thing to do
