Fireworks Night!
May. 23rd, 2007 12:01 amSaturday is Fireworks Night!
I know this because the little fireworks shop in Inverymay Rd that is only open some months of the year, has one of those trailler things that you sometimes see around roadworks with the flasing light signs on, out the front telling everyone that Saturday is Fireworks Night!
And last Sunday, at the RSPCA event, they reminded everyone to bring their dogs inside and can we have extra volunteers at the shelter on Sunday?
Fireworks Night! went out of favour for a while. I think it was the governments fault. They brought in some legislation that meant you needed permits to have a fireworks display, or something. There were a few group events over the next couple of years, but it soon, um, fizzled. No more groups of kids setting off bangers for weeks beforehand. Or ad campaigns running on TV warning people not to put them in their pockets or light them in their hands or other intelligent acts. And reminders to lock up your pets.
It sort of faded from memory, like the holiday it originated from.
But now it's back!
