March 21 is Harmony Day.

"Harmony Day is an opportunity to celebrate our cultural diversity, re-commit to our common values of respect and goodwill, and to say 'no' to racism."

From http://www.harmony.gov.au/harmony.htm

Being as that is a Tuesday, there were some events held today including one at the museum site at Inveresk. Lots of singing, dancing and eating went on. Not your typical museum experience :) Inside there were displays of crafts & jewellery & photos & other interesting stuff. For example, at the the Launceston Chinese Assoc table you could have you name done in Chinese calligraphy or try the chopsticks test -- picking up marbles or ping pong balls and putting them into another bowl. (I was bad :( There was a young girl about to try it while I was standing nearby so I picked up one and dropped it in the empty bowl. "Easy!" Of course it wasn't for her.)

I'd been dragged in to help with the chidlren's games out the front. The idea was for the kids to try games from other countries & some old favourites, and the best way to get kids to come over and play was to have people already playing them i.e. us volunteers. It's been a long time since I played hopscotch or used a skipping rope. Wasn't quite so bouncy then :| We also have quoits, boulles (I think), some board games, a game where you had to kick a token off a stick, another where you in a circle, legs apart and tried to stop the person in the middle throwing a ball out and so on. I think adults need to play games more. Always interesting how the games kids play around the world are different in the details, but similar in concepts. Sometimes it's just a matter of the words said or the names things are given.
