Cut off one head and another grows.
It's Lief's fault. He talks too much.
I had this minor, just needed in one scene, character. He was so unimportant, I grabbed my name list, found the first letter I hadn't used and gave him the first name I saw. No fussing at all. Then he was needed for another scene (don't laugh). Then he turns up again... and bring his former apprentice with him!
Excuse me. Former apprentice? Where did he come from? And why is he called Lief? I would never call anyone Lief. I don't even know where it comes from. Bah. He's a spear-carrier's spear-carrier.
Then the two of them took over the novel and dragged it off to places it was never meant to go.
Oh well.
I've rewritten 18K words that used to be 12K, although there are some missing bits so let's 21K. It's doubling, and trying to pretend it's not.
