Well, I got the stupid scene sort of written out. Enough so I can move on.
That's the endpoint of the "divergent" scenes. That is, when I rehashed the second plotline and had to rewrite all those scenes so they fitted the new reality. But they still had to go to the same point, which they did. Effectively, it was just the start of the scene that had to be changed but talk about different. In the original version, poor Nate get to watch the girl he loves flit about with the guy she's about to marry; now he gets waylaid by the boss's daughter in a corner of the orchard. Same end result though.
