Stuck. Stuck. Stuck.
Because I need to write a scene from scratch and I keep putting it off. I can't come up with the first line (during the day, when I have 'new' stuff to write, I'll come up with the first line -- the exact words, down to the punctuation -- then when I sit down to write, I've got something to start with).
Why can't I use the existing scene:
Most of the actions/dialogue no longer follow from what came before
One of the character's names is wrong
There's no conflict
Some of the dialogue is plain silly
I need to add in a new bit to add conflict
There's a line of dialogue that I like but I'm not sure it still fits, at least here. Another paragraph that does some useful explaining that I should keep.
The rest has to go!
Nate looked at himself in the mirror. It was an odd sensation, not just because he rarely had to chance to see himself. They'd dressed him in tight breeches and a white silk shirt. Then they brushed out his hair and cut it. Now the young man that stared back at Nate seemed like someone else.
He turned around, trying to convince himself it really was him.
"He looks the part," a woman's voice said.
